Course Objective

This programme aims to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills for the purpose of making the experiences of their guests a memorable one. A primary aspect of the programme is the focus on product knowledge such as facts and figures, history and culture, social and economic aspects of Singapore. Another aspect of the programme seeks to enhance the communication and interpersonal skills as well as the guiding techniques of the participants.

    Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive 3 Statements of Attainments (SOAs).

    ::: Singapore Tourism Board (STB) Tourist Guide Licence Examination

    Participants must obtain 3 WSQ Statements of Attainments (Interact with Guests, Conduct Tour and Apply Tourism Knowledge) in order to enrol for the Tourist Guide Examination. The Tourist Guide Certificate in Proficiency will be awarded by Singapore Tourism Board (STB) to the participants who have passed the STB Tourist Guide Examination.
  • Minimum Entry Requirement
    • Be out-going and interested in tourism as a career
    • Over 21 years of age and medically fit
    • GCE ‘O’ Level with a pass in English (minimum B4) / Chinese (minimum C6) OR WSQ ESS Workplace Literacy & Numeracy Level 6 with preferably 3 years of working experience in the tourism-related industry
    • Have a high standard of proficiency in your guiding language
    • Please note that STB will only issue a Tourist Guide license to foreigners holding work permits indicating that they are hired as a Tourist Guide with a licensed travel agency
    • All applicants have to undergo a pre-course selection interview

    *A translation fee of S$192.60 (inclusive of GST) will be charged if the guiding language for the examination differs from the language of instruction during the programme.

    In accordance to Council for Private Education (CPE) regulations, students are required to be covered under the Fee Protection Scheme (FPS) insurance to protect their fees. FPS is payable by students and will amount to 1% of total fees payable (excluding application fee, agent commission fee (if applicable), miscellaneous fees (non-compulsory and non-standard fee paid only when necessary or where applicable, for example, the re-exam fee or charges for credit card payment, etc) and GST).

    ^NOTE: Eligible trainees are required to pay the course fees before course commencement and will receive a reimbursement of $2,889 ($2700 WDA funding + 7% GST) from TMIS should they fulfill the following terms and conditions.


    TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR WDA FUNDING

    Company-Sponsored Applicant

    • Applicant must be Singaporean or Singapore PR.
    • Applicant must achieve 75% attendance for EVERY unit and pass ALL assessments by TMIS within 2 attempts.
    • WDA funding applies to the course fees only and excludes Application fee and re-assessment fee.
    • Should the applicant resign or be terminated during the training, the sponsoring company will not be eligible for funding. If applicant wishes to continue with the course, he/she can apply as Self-Paying Applicant. Terms and conditions apply.
    • The absentee payroll will be disbursed to the company through SKILLSCONNECT when the participant attain ALL the required SOAs.
    • Applicant must obtain STB license within 6 months from course end date and provide TMIS a copy of the license for reimbursement
    • Applicant must pass the interview conducted by TMIS and sign a letter of undertaking to indicate that he/she fully understands the terms and conditions for the WDA funding.

    Self-Paying Applicant

    • Applicant must be Singaporean or Singapore PR.
    • Applicant must achieve 75% attendance for EVERY unit and pass ALL assessments by TMIS within 2 attempts.
    • WDA funding applies to the course fees only and excludes Application fee and re-assessment fee.
    • Trainees can apply for the reimbursement within 6 months from course end date if they fulfill all the following:
      » Attain ALL the required SOAs.
      » Obtain STB license within 3 months from course end date and provide TMIS a copy of the license for reimbursement.
    • Self-paying applicants are NOT entitled to absentee payroll.
    • Applicant must pass the interview conducted by TMIS and sign a letter of undertaking to indicate that he/she fully understands the terms and conditions for the WDA funding.
